hawaii has 8 main islands and 100 more that are protected. any time is best. now is good, winter temp. in HI is around mid 60′s-70′s but lil rainy. everybody in t shirt and shorts year round. get 3 new islands near the big island, 2 sticking out of da water and 1 still under. lot of good places to see, depends which island you go to.

Hawaii is near the equator so you get sunshine and 30 degrees temperature all year round. That also means you can visit any time.
Depends on what you want to do, the islands are distinctly different from each other. Most international flights would land in Oahu Island, Honolulu. Visit Pearl Harbour/go north shore for great surfing. My favourite island is Kauai – where they shot Jurassic Park the movie. It is simply gorgeous, quiet and great for outdoor activities and surfing. Very green and wonderful flowers everywhere. Big Island is major volcano land so the terrain is unique. Very cultural. Maui is a little more similar to Oahu but less busy. Very scenic, great to drive around.
Heads up: Hawaii is very expensive because most things need to be shipped in, eg. some of the food and everything else. So, keep your budget in mind before you go.
To answer your questions about there being a few more islands…there are over 100 additional islands and atolls in the Hawaiian chain. They are mostly uninhabited and are designated a Marine National Monument. Best time to visit would be almost any time of the year, however, winter months tend to be more rainy than other times, especially Jan-Feb, but even those months aren’t bad. They typically are not day-ruining all day showers, but rather short afternoon rains that help to keep things green.
Hawaii has 8 main islands, but only Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai are truly regular sites for tourists. There are hundreds of older small islands to the northwest of the main ones, but they’re generally small wildlife refuges at best and aren’t visited. And there are technically other islands scattered in the Pacific that aren’t part of Hawaii.
